Ride To Work 2 + Wednesday morning Centennial Park laps

Each Wednesday morning, I try to do some laps of Centennial Park before work.

I have been lucky that the past few weeks, despite being rainy on all other days, Wednesday has been good weather.

This morning went well.  When I come across other cyclists and they turn right around the roundabout, I really notice how much pace I'm losing (they're pretty much gone by the time I've finished crossing both intersections), but that's ok, I'll get there.

It also makes me happy because it's a half hour ride to work, and I reckon once I can do the right turns, that'll drop to 20 mins, which is amazing for a work commute!

In another note, my Frog In The Pocket moment today (as opposed to yesterday's I Have Confidence) to keep on the Sound Of Music theme..

I have been dreading the crossing for the busway at Anzac Parade, where the cycleway joins the main Anzac Parade strip.

Google maps is outdated so you can't see the "slow down the cyclists" barriers, but I've drawn them in here.

Everyone seems to keep on their bike and navigate around these barriers.  However, I get quite nervous that people are coming up behind me and I always think, no I'll get off my bike and walk through, and then when I get to the barriers, I feel like having a go.

I think this mish mash of intentions in my brain is not communicating well with my limbs and as a result I fell over this morning.  Which is quadruple embarassment because you have 4 sets of people watching you:
  1. the people on the bus giving way,
  2. the cyclists behind you,
  3. the pedestrians behind you
  4. as well as the people sitting in traffic on Anzac Parade.

It's ok.  I just laugh it off, pick my bike up and keep going.  :)

P.S.  This is the best Pinterest board ever!  A Sound of Music Pinterest board!  Oh my!

Sometimes I like to be dramatic and make out that I'm really tired, you know "I only fell over because this is like my 100th lap of this area"...  It's a bit stupid, I know, but I have been known to be dramatic (my husband says, "more like melodramatic!")

P.P.S.  I made sure I Strava-ed this ride so I could prove it to my husband.
Below is a screenshot of the section known as the "cat ears" (no, I didn't name it that, although I wish I had).  I'm moving up the ranks of this section slowly.  I think I started in the bottom 5th or something.
Also, I try to keep in mind most of the people on Strava are pretty serious about cycling.  Well, that's how I like to explain my low ranks..

P.P.P.S. The weather's not looking good for the rest of the week, so not sure if I'll be riding then.  I guess it's back to the bus or car.  (Rumour has it the parking situation at work will improve tomorrow).
